Guess where’s hot for family travel in 2017? From The Balearics to Portugal, San Fran to Tokyo – this is where you’ll be globe trotting to this year…
It’s said that having a holiday to look forward to is as good as going on one. But where to go with the kids this year?
Well to help you on your merry travels, we’ve consulted some of the top players in the family holiday industry including Jet2.com and Tots To Travel to find out where’s hot in 2017, here’s what they said:
You can drive there in 10 hours, fly there in one and a half hours and walk it in six days! You get the picture. It’s not far away and with it being the south west of France time it right and the weather is lovely too.
There’s vineyeards for the grown up’s, country walks and farms for the little ones, and did we mention the cheeessseee. It’s no surprise that this historical city is listed as one of Lonely Planet’s top destinations for family travel.
Always one of the top European destinations is the Balearics. Family friendly airline Jet2.com said:
“Obviously Majorca (Balearics in general) is popular with short flight times, great beaches and the hotels really cater for families.
“Costa Dorada (Salou) is really well known in the British market. PortAventura World is also located in Salou and Ferrari Land will open in 2017 (see image above). It was even mentioned in a Sunday Times article a couple of weeks ago for being a top family destination.”
Another great tip off is that there’s lots of investment has been made in Benidorm of late, with Magic Natura one to watch this year, opening very soon.
When both the Telegraph travel and Conde Nast Traveller both say Bermuda’s the place to be for 2017, we listen. With stunning beaches, friendly locals and lots of water sports and activities for the kids, it’s a long-haul hit with the little ones, particularly in March and April.
We’ve been hearing lots of good things about Tenerife this year, so we spoke to our family favourite holidaymakers Tots To Travel to find out why. They said:
“Tenerife offers year-round sunshine, stunning sandy beaches, plenty of family activities and a safe, family friendly atmosphere, it’s easy to see why it’s s set to be a top family holiday destination for 2017. Super-easy to get to from the UK and with a short flight duration that’s perfect for parents with tiny tots. Family holiday experts Tots to Travel have recently unveiled their newest Tenerife resort, ‘Green Gardens’. It even has specially refurbished ‘Tots’ villas, designed with families in mind.”
Recommended by the Telegraph Travel, is San Francisco. This year the city marks its 50th anniversary of the Summer of Love, so there’s lots to see and do. It’s a great place to visit with older children – from cultural sites like Alcatraz to feeding the lions, gorging at the Cheesecake factory. Plus taking a bike ride over it’s famous Golden Gate Bridge is a must. With all its hills though, I wouldn’t personally recommend it for those with buggies.
TOKYO AND KYOTO
If you’re looking for something different, then Tokyo and it’s neighbouring Kyoto are two very exciting cities to visit. It’s still one of the best places I’ve ever been to and I vow to take my son back any day now. Conde Nast Traveller cite it as one of their picks for the year. To learn more about what you can do in Tokyo, read my earlier post here.
Portugal was the big family hit of 2016. It’s no surprise that it’s going to be another very popular destination for family travel again this year, as predicted by Conde Nast Traveller. And it’s easy to see why – just a quick flight transports you to a European paradise, in a home-from-home kind of way. There’s budget, there’s decadence , there’s great beaches, brilliant food and (for better or worse), lots of Brits. Discover more about it here.
So there you have it. The top places for tots and big kids for 2017, all you have to do now is book it..
