You’ll fall in love with the Algarve, for family travel
Family Travel with a Tot…
Ask any friend with a child where they’ve been abroad on holiday lately, and you’re likely to hear ‘the Algarve’. The most southern part of Portugal is back in vogue and it’s easy to see why; flights from London to Faro are a reasonable 2 hour 50 minute journey, the weather is perfectly warm and it has an impressive choice of hotels geared towards family travel.
Here’s a roundup of the best places to stay for you and your little ones…
Best Hotel for Luxury – Pine Cliffs Resort
Ideal for younger children
If you’re after luxury, relaxation and a highly recommended kids club, you won’t find better than the Pine Cliffs Resort. We stayed here for a week and enjoyed the hotel’s fantastic facilities, coupled with the nearby beach.
A large, but not anonymous resort, there’s much to discover, including nine restaurants (ranging from Japanese to Mediterranean), six swimming pools and a nine-hole golf course.
Idle hands are occupied with the kids club on a pirate ship, along with a lusciously heated pool. Plus, there’s also a mini-golf, children’s village and bouncy castle. And me? Well, I managed to get some much needed chill in the Serenity Thermal Spa. Bliss!
Best for water babes – Martinhal Sagres
Ideal for older children
If your kids are of the age with energy to burn, then Martinhal Sagres is the answer. There’s tons of water based activities to keep them entertained here, from surfing to biking and boat trips galore.
Families will find the self-catering appealing, which offer a flexible base for families on the go.
On site, the resort offers five swimming pools along with a spa, creche and kids club.
During your stay it’s definitely worth visiting the neighbouring national park, bring walking shoes as there’s lots to discover.
Best hotel to escape it all – Praia Verde
Ideal for newborns
When you travel with a newborn you need a hotel with a few key things – easy access for a pram, a few shops and restaurants nearby, and somewhere with a beach in reach.
Here on the eastern coast, Praia Verde has all the above, offering a discreet hidden-away hotel with a local beach and enough on site restaurants to mean you never have to leave. The hotel is modern in its design, inviting a calm and low-key ambiance.
It’s a great location to drop and flop, but if you get itchy feet, Seville is less than an hour and half by car.
