There’s three things I love most about London in winter; the first is that everyone buggers off at Christmas, paving the way for empty streets and plenty of parking. The second is the Winter Wonderland event, and the final is the annual Telegraph Ski & Snowboard Festival in Battersea!

Despite being an ‘all the gear and on idea’ kind of gal, I’m rather fond of this alpine event. It’s more of a celebration of all the best bits of mountain-life, without any of the hassle of schlepping to the slopes and realising you can’t even snow-plough!

Somebody say Apres-Ski?!

Returning to London between October 25-28, the Telegraph Ski & Snowboard show transforms the south London suburb into ‘Mount Battersea’ – a fun-filled day out for everyone, especially families. There’s some super-fun features to look out for including; dog sledding, a ferris wheel, ice-skating, a Snow + Rock climbing wall, and two unadulterated nights of fun at the apres ski. Just as well it’s the weekend…

Family Fun

While the more adventurous parent wouldn’t hesitate to take their little one to the slopes of Courchevel, this is something I’ve put on temporary hold until Boo is older. Which is why this event is great – it’s a gentle introduction to alpine life, in the most fun way.

Aside from the big-air action and some pretty awe-inspiring demos, there’s lots of other activities going on too.

Check out their schedule to plan your visit, but don’t miss the Neilson Lodge for kids activities with ‘Tootles & Nibs’. And, if you come down on Saturday, treat your little ones to inspiring stories from Britain’s Olympic and Paralympic teams.

Safety awareness with Fjord The Rescue Dog is pretty irresistible fun and kind of useful too.

And saving the best for last, hang out with Father Christmas who is making an appearance between 1.15-3.30pm at the weekend.

For the grown up’s make your way over to the Quicksilver bar and get stuck in to the apres-ski action, live music and comedy hosted by ‘Altitude presents’ at 5.30pm. That’s right, an actual night out that start’s early for parents, thank you Battersea!

Style it Out

Make your excuses and get out of work early on Friday. There’s a Brit’s Style session in the afternoon and Olympic skier Chemmy Alcott will be gracing the slopes daily, at the ‘Chem Ski Slope’. There’s also an early evening Ski Technique Lab with Warren Smith on Friday. Get a pass card and stay out late as ‘Famous First Words’ – a novel karaoke event you don’t want to miss on Friday night (7.45pm).
