Celebs love Placenta Pills – but are they fad or fab?

They’re popular with celebrities and always make headlines – but are placenta pills a passing fad, or are they here to stay

In my other job as an er… writer, I wrote about Placenta Pills for a piece in the Huffington Post. It turned out to be one of my most popular features.

It seems that whatever your position on it, everyone’s, well rather interested.

You might be surprised that there’s a number of celebs that are into it, including…

  • Kim Kardashian West
  • Coleen Rooney
  • Alicia Silverstone
  • January Jones (from Mad Men)
  • Rebekah Vardy (see her instagram picture below)

Let's do this then! Thanks so much @placentaplus 😊 #roadtorecovery 💙

But are they a passing fad?

placenta plusWhile it would be hard to argue that placenta pills are mainstream, it’s hard to see this trend going away. With high profile Mothers like Kim Kardashian and Coleen Rooney publicly declaring their support for it, tweeting, instagraming an even writing about their experience, I expect this is a trend that is here to stay.

However a round of pills can cost around £200 with one of it’s main suppliers Placenta Plus, who claim there are many benefits to using them on their website, including: “A boost in energy levels, balanced moods and hormones and faster recovery from birth” among many other suggested benefits. P

So, I decided to include a section on it, in my new book ‘The First-Time Parent Six Months on the Outside’ and thought I’d share a snippet with you here. The book is available now to download for just a pound and offers invaluable advice to new parents.

Tastes Like Chicken?

Chicken, chips and a side of placenta? For some, the organ that was once their baby’s power pack is a dish best served post-partum. And while it’s not for everyone, placenta pill-popping has quite a following in celebrity circles.

So what’s it all about? Well, although you have the option to cook it, many prefer to have their placenta freeze-dried and converted into tablets. While there’s little medical evidence to support the following benefits, some claim that it can help reduce the likelihood of post-partum depression and increase energy levels, among other suggested advantages.

But be prepared to fork out, so to speak – a jar from Placenta Plus, who celebrity mum Coleen Rooney tweeted about (@ColeenRoo), starts at £200.
