It’s a leap year, and you know what that means…
Ever since I saw Muriel’s Wedding I kinda had an obsession with getting married. And I don’t think I’m alone… most women I know have always dreamed about saying ‘I Do’ – although perhaps that’s just the kind of psycho bitches I like!
Speaking of which, my *heroes* Samantha, Carrie, Charlotte and Miranda did nothing to prepare me for ‘The One’. If I was to believe their Hollywood tinted lifestyles, Mr Big would be a bit of a shit that I ended up falling in love with. I’d be cheated on, broken up with, have a mental breakdown over and run away to Paris, only to be tracked down and proposed once he had finally revealed his name.
It’s exhausting, and of course, nothing like the real world, of;
- Meet someone
- Sleep with them far too early
- Probably date them
- Fall in love
- Go out less, eat pasta more
- Pop out a child…
- ..or two
- Live happily ever after
The Love Campaign
However, one thing I’m omitting in all of this, is the year-long campaign I waged to get my husband to marry me! It happened to be just before the previous leap year. I had been dropping hints at every opportunity in a ‘if you like it you shoulda put a ring on it’ way. You know, like only a woman in her 30s who had been dating for four years does.
It also happened to coincide with the Leap Year.
This unusual event provided the perfect ammunition, whereby I suggested I’d be getting down on bended knee if he didnt! Whether that was a final motivator I’ll never know, but sure enough three months before the leap year. And guess what – he delightfully popped the question. And we have been happily eating pasta and going to bed at 9pm ever since!
Now don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong in a woman proposing to a man.
In a mini poll on Twitter 70% of you didn’t care either, 15% said it was cool, and the final 15% didn’t like the idea.
Excitingly, the next leap year takes place very soon on February 29th – and if this has been any inspiration at all, you have a few days left to get get the pressure on!
