CELEBRATING ROAD DAHL THE LEGEND
Today (7 Sept) is Roald Dahl day, and I got a bit nostalgic, thinking about how much fun we had reading his books growing up.
There was The B.F.G – a book I read until the pages started to smear! Then there was George’s Marvelous Medicine, which was definitely my favourite.
All the girls in my school loved Matilda, but I was more of a Charlie and The Chocolate Factory kind of gal! And when I saw the film, I couldn’t believe that the words I had loved so much had been brought to the screen. It was magical.
In fact, just thinking about it makes me excited to think that my son has all of this to discover.
I try to read every night to my boy, at the moment we’re on the Meg and Mog series, followed by Mr Men. Soon, he will graduate to Dr Seuss and then when he can start to join in, the brilliance of Roald Dahl.
The problem is, all my book references re from the 80s when I grew up! Is this normal – are these books still in fashion, or should there be some others I can introduce? I appreciate your views, please share…
