If you ever wondered how to get your kids Birthday card on CBeebies, read on…
Good news – you don’t have to be a ‘crafty’ Mum for your kids birthday card to feature on CBeebies. All you have to do is equip yourself with a printer, some pritt stick and an ounce of creativity or wine!
Apparently, there’s a 50 per cent chance of getting on, and as one of the successful ones, here’s some insider tips…
Tonight's efforts. This birthday card will be going in the post to CBeebies tomorrow, in the hope it appears on TV on my little man's birthday next month. Fingers crossed it appears. It had to feature felt, given my recent makes. But I scaled down my grand plans for a felt Postman Pat, Jess the cat and post van. As the cards aren't returned, it didn't seem worth the extra effort! #cbeebiescard #CBeebies #cbeebiesbirthdaycard #thirdbirthday #birthdaycard #handmade #handmadewithlove #postmanpat #jessthecat #specialdeliveryservice
Homemade is good, even if it’s crap!
Hence, think about the demographic…. If it’s a little bit naff and definitely homemade, it feels real – and the BBC like real alright!
Don’t go to town on it
Think about what works on TV. A busy card is complicated to view.
- Keep it simple, use bold colours that stand out.
- Don’t make it fussy.
- Use simple illustrations
- Use bold colours to help it stand out on TV – such as a yellow background with blue writing
Be on time
Plan ahead, CBeebies researchers like to receive cards at least a month ahead of the birthday. This goes up to six week’s in advance over the holidays.
Be on brand
Make sure your artwork includes CBeebies characters, for licensing reasons. There’s loads to chose from – Hey Duggee, In the Night Garden, Justin’s House and Bing, to name a few.
Obviously, include a picture of your little angel. I’m sure smiling photos have a better chance of being used (my boy was smiling). Also avoid school branding or any big logos – undue prominence and all that.
…. the science bit
- Try to avoid tube postage and make sure cards are landscape – no bigger than A2 size
- Include your baby’s name on the back of the card
- Include a short message – make sure your writing is clear (print it out if you can)
- Keep it brief!
And finally. When it’s ready send it to:
CBeebies PO Box 1234 Salford M5 0D
Or for their full instructions, their website can be found here>>>.
I hope you find this useful and I’d love to hear any success stories – please share them with me!
